Beef Stew with Mushrooms & Marsala | Meats |
3 lbs. lean stew beef, 1" cubes
2 tbsp. margerine 2 yellow onions,peeled 2 garlic cloves,peeled 2 oz. dried Italian Mushrooms OR |
1 can drained mushroom pieces
1/2 cup dry white wine 1 cup Marsala 1/2 tsp. rosemary,oregano,basil salt&pepper |
Put the margerine in a heated fry pan and brown the beef cubes on all sides. Put in a large stew pot. Chop up yellow onions and garlic cloves and fry until golden.
Marinate the dried mushrooms in 1 1/2 cups water for 1 hour. Remove,save liquid.
Add white wine and marsala to the stew pot. Add soaked mushrooms and some of the liquid. Add onions and garlic.
Add the spices;cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Serves 6 and is nice with cooked polenta.
