Czech Bread Dumplings | Pancakes & Dumplings |
3 eggs
3/4 cup milk 1 tsp. salt |
3 cups flour sifted with 1/2 tsp. baking powder
10 slices of toasted white bread cut in 1/2 inch cubes |

Beat eggs, salt and milk in an electric mixer. Add flour gradually to consistancy of a very thick sponge.(not too dry). Continue beating with a wooden spoon until mixture burps. Stir in bread cubes and mix thoroughly.
Have a wet towel ready. Shape, with wet hands, into an oblong and place on the wet towel. Fold towel over and pin with safety pins to make a basket. Drop into a large kettle of rapidly boiling , salted water. Boil, covered, for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until a straw comes out cleanly.
Remove from towel and slice into 1/2 inch slices immediately. Keep warm and loosely covered until serving time.
Serve with sauce, stew or gravy.
MICROWAVE: Prepare loaf( not too dry). Put in a greased casserole ( use Crisco). Put wax paper over. Cook at power level
#4 for 8 minutes (turning 3 times) and then at power level# 10 for 1 minute. Let rest for 5 minutes and then slice.
